5) Reducing the tile size
C5 Pro uses a tile-based algorithm to render on multiple computing units. By reducing the tile size, we can optimize the render times when computers with different speeds are used on the network. After all, if a slow computer gets a difficult tile, it will take him less time if the tile is smaller, so it will not slow down the farm too much. The option to reduce the tile size can be found in the Render Room, miscellaneous section (the new value can be entered by using the slider, or by entering the number directly). See screenshot on the right.
6) Tile size effect : In the following 3 tables, you can see the results with tile sizes of 128, 64 and 32. The renderfarm total efficiency improves steadily, but only when there are enough PCs to compensate for the loss in efficiency at the individual PC level (due to smaller tiles). Tile sizes of 64 and 32 seem to be the most interesting values. We will verify this theory in Part 3/3 of this study.
